SVG: WYSIWYG for the Web
 
SVG shares the same display model as Adobe’s PDF, Postscript and most importantly Apple’s Quartz which is the display system for OS X.
 
In particular as the next iteration of Safari is to have native SVG support, this is great news for SVG. At some point in time, the display engine for SVG can be merged into Quartz, allowing any Quartz application to display SVG natively.
 
On a platform such as the iPhone this may be essential to avoiding feature bloat and performance degradation as a result.
 
As a Web 2.0 technology, on OS X, SVG is poised to become an excellent alternative to Flash and Microsofts’ WinPF/X.
 
An interesting point to note is that all three technologies are based on vector graphics.
 
However, SVG is the best solution for a Unified Graphics Model on OS X...
